If you are covered by the Canadian Dental Care Plan, you should not need to decode a government website to use it. We accept CDCP, we bill Sun Life directly, and we will walk you through exactly what is and is not covered. No pressure and no lectures, whether it has been six months or six years since your last visit.
CDCP covers the everyday care that keeps your mouth healthy: checkups, cleanings, fillings, x-rays and more, always subject to the plan's rules. It does not cover orthodontic or cosmetic treatment, which means Invisalign is not included. Knowing that line before you book saves surprises later.
| Type of care | CDCP status |
|---|---|
| Checkups and exams | Covered, subject to plan rules |
| Cleanings | Covered, subject to plan rules |
| Fillings | Covered, subject to plan rules |
| X-rays | Covered, subject to plan rules |
| Invisalign and other orthodontics | Not covered |
| Cosmetic treatment | Not covered |

You may be eligible if you meet four conditions: you are a Canadian resident, you filed your taxes, you do not have access to private dental insurance, and your household income falls within the federal guidelines. All four have to be true at the same time.
The Government of Canada sets these rules and adjusts them, so the authoritative source is the official canada.ca CDCP page. We cannot approve or deny anyone's eligibility, only Ottawa can, but we are glad to help you make sense of your situation. Our guide Eligibility: do you qualify? walks through each condition with examples.
Not sure where you stand? Call (416) 760-0404 and tell us what you know. We will point you to the right next step, even if that step is a government form rather than a dental chair.
Direct billing means we send the claim for covered care straight to Sun Life, instead of asking you to pay up front and chase a reimbursement. Here is the process from your side.
Your co-payment level comes from your CDCP paperwork and the income bands on canada.ca. Our guide to understanding your co-payment explains how the bands work, and why CDCP claims get denied covers the pitfalls we help you avoid.
Four things cover almost every situation:
That is it. If you are missing something, call ahead and we will tell you whether it matters.
CDCP coverage is not automatic from one year to the next. If you were covered in 2025, you likely need to renew for 2026, and the renewal depends on your latest tax filing. Missing it can leave a gap in your coverage right when you are due for a cleaning.
We wrote a step-by-step renewal guide for 2026, plus a short explainer on how to check your CDCP status through your My Service Canada Account. Behind on it already? There is a last-week checklist for that too.
The Village Dentist is a woman-led practice on Annette Street, headed by Dr. Abinaash Kaur, DDS, with 25+ years of dentistry and more than 200,000 procedures across the team's history. We offer care in English and Italian, so you or your parents can ask questions in whichever feels natural.
The office is accessible, there is street parking on Annette St, and evening and Saturday appointments are available for people whose weekdays are spoken for. CDCP patients get the same chairs, the same team, and the same unhurried explanations as everyone else.
Booking takes a couple of minutes online, or one phone call. Tell us you are a CDCP patient and we take it from there: coverage confirmed and the claim direct-billed to Sun Life.
We keep a library of plain-language CDCP guides written for Toronto patients. Start with the complete guide, or jump to the question on your mind.
We are on Annette Street, an easy trip from Bloor West Village, High Park, The Junction, Roncesvalles, Swansea, and Baby Point. Plenty of CDCP patients also ask about care the plan does not reach: we offer a free consultation for Invisalign and for dental implants, each with a written personal quote.

You may qualify if you are a Canadian resident, filed your taxes last year, do not have access to private dental insurance, and your household income falls within the federal guidelines. The rules are set by the Government of Canada and can change, so check the official canada.ca CDCP page, or call us and we will help you figure it out.
Yes. We bill Sun Life directly for covered CDCP services, so you do not pay the covered portion up front and wait for a reimbursement cheque. Tell us you are a CDCP patient when you book, bring your member card or welcome letter, and we take care of the claim paperwork from there.
It depends on your plan. Based on household income, CDCP pays either the full cost of covered services or a share of it. If your plan assigns you a co-payment, you pay that portion and we bill Sun Life for the rest. The federal government sets those shares; the canada.ca CDCP page explains the income bands.
Yes. Your CDCP coverage belongs to you, not to a specific clinic, so you can book with any participating dentist. We are accepting new CDCP patients right now. If you would like your records transferred from a previous office, tell us the office name and we will guide you through the request.
Yes. Cleanings, checkups, fillings, and x-rays are the kind of everyday care CDCP was built for, subject to the plan's rules and your coverage share. Our guides on cleanings and exams and on what CDCP actually covers break down the details, or call us and we will check for your situation.
No. CDCP does not cover orthodontic or cosmetic treatment, and that includes Invisalign. If straighter teeth are on your list, we offer a free Invisalign consultation with a written personal quote and flexible monthly payment plans. Your CDCP coverage still applies to the everyday care that keeps your teeth healthy.
Bring your Sun Life member card or CDCP welcome letter, a piece of photo ID, and a list of any medications you take. If you are switching from another dentist, the name of your previous office helps us request your records. Arrive a few minutes early and we will handle the rest.
Book online or call. We confirm your coverage, direct-bill Sun Life, and take it from there.
