How Much Does Invisalign Cost in Toronto? The Honest Answer from a Dentist Who Does Hundreds of Cases

October 14, 2025

You Googled "Invisalign cost Toronto." You probably got six different numbers from six different websites, and none of them told you why. So here is the honest version, from a dentist who has been doing Invisalign cases on Annette Street since 2008.

The short answer: at The Village Dentist, Invisalign runs between $3,900 and $8,500 CAD. That range exists because your mouth is not the same as the next person's mouth. The real question isn't "how much does Invisalign cost." It's "how much does my Invisalign cost." That takes a scan, not a Google search.

I'm Dr. Abinaash Kaur, B.Sc., DDS, MFT. I trained at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry, and I've been practising in Bloor West Village for over 25 years. Invisalign has been part of my practice since 2008. Here is what actually drives the number.

What Makes One Invisalign Case Cost More Than Another?

The price depends on four things.

Complexity of movement. Closing a small gap between your front teeth is a different job than correcting a deep bite with crowding on both arches. More movement means more aligners, more appointments, and more refinement rounds. A 2023 study in the American Journal of Orthodontics found that patients used an average of 64 aligners over the course of treatment. Simple cases might need 20. Complex cases can need over 100.

Number of refinements. That same study looked at 500 patients and found that 94% needed at least one refinement scan. The average was 2.5 refinement rounds. Refinements are included in most Invisalign treatment plans at our office, but they add clinical time.

Your starting point. Spacing, crowding, bite issues, missing teeth, prior dental work. All of it factors in. A systematic review in the European Journal of Orthodontics showed that mild cases averaged around 18 months of treatment. Moderate cases averaged closer to 27 months. That time difference is reflected in cost.

The provider's experience. This matters more than most patients realise. Invisalign is a tool. The dentist is the one planning the movements, reviewing the ClinCheck simulation, and making clinical decisions at every stage. I've been doing this for 18 years. That means fewer surprises, fewer mid-course corrections, and a more efficient treatment plan.

Is Invisalign More Expensive Than Braces?

Pretty much comparable, actually. In Toronto, traditional metal braces typically run $5,000 to $8,000 CAD for adults. Invisalign falls in a similar range. The days when Invisalign carried a big premium over braces are mostly over.

A 2024 comparative study found Invisalign averaged 18 months of active treatment versus 24 months for braces, with comparable outcomes for mild to moderate cases. Fewer appointments over a shorter timeline can offset the per-aligner cost.

The real cost difference isn't always in the sticker price. It's in the things that don't show up on the quote. Braces require more frequent office visits. Broken brackets mean emergency appointments. Invisalign patients come in less often and spend less chair time per visit.

Does Insurance Cover Invisalign in Ontario?

Most employer dental plans in Ontario include orthodontic coverage. The typical lifetime orthodontic maximum is $1,500 to $3,000 CAD, though some plans go higher.

Here is what a lot of patients don't know: your insurance company does not distinguish between Invisalign and braces. If your plan covers orthodontics, it covers Invisalign. The coverage amount is the same either way.

At The Village Dentist, we verify your insurance coverage before you commit to anything. We submit a predetermination to your carrier so you know the exact dollar amount they will pay. No guessing. We also handle direct billing to most major Canadian insurance plans, so you're not paying out of pocket and waiting for reimbursement.

If you have two family members with orthodontic benefits, you can sometimes coordinate both plans to increase total coverage. We walk patients through this at the consultation.

What If I Can't Afford the Full Amount Upfront?

You don't have to. Most patients at our practice use a payment plan. We break the total into monthly payments spread across the treatment timeline. No interest through our in-office plan.

Third-party financing is also available if you prefer longer terms. The monthly payment for a $5,500 case over 24 months works out to roughly $230 per month before insurance. After a $2,000 insurance contribution, that drops to about $146 per month.

Invisalign is a medical expense, which means it qualifies for the Medical Expense Tax Credit on your Canadian tax return. Depending on your income bracket, that can reduce the effective cost by 15 to 30 percent. Your accountant can confirm the exact amount.

Are "Cheaper Invisalign" Options Actually Cheaper?

Wait. You've probably seen ads for mail-order aligners at $2,000 or less. Here is what those prices leave out.

Mail-order aligners skip the in-person exam. No X-rays. No clinical assessment of your gums, roots, or bone health. No dentist monitoring your progress every few weeks.

A 2025 expert consensus published in the International Journal of Oral Science was clear: clear aligner treatment requires clinical supervision. Unsupervised tooth movement can cause root resorption, gum recession, and bite problems that cost far more to fix than the aligners saved.

The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) and the Canadian Dental Association both emphasize that orthodontic treatment is a medical procedure requiring professional oversight.

Cheap and unsupervised is not a deal. It's a risk.

What's Included in the Invisalign Price at The Village Dentist?

Our Invisalign fee is comprehensive. It includes:

  • Initial consultation and iTero 3D scan
  • Full ClinCheck treatment simulation (you see the projected result before you start)
  • All aligner sets for your treatment plan
  • Refinement aligners if needed (most patients need them)
  • All progress check appointments
  • Retainers at the end of treatment
  • Direct insurance billing
The scan is free. You see a simulation of your projected result on screen in the same visit. If you decide it's not for you, you owe nothing. We don't charge for the consultation or the scan.

What Do Patients Actually Ask Me About Cost?

"Why is there such a big range? Can't you just tell me a number?"

Not without seeing your teeth. The scan takes 15 minutes. After that, I can give you an exact quote. The range exists because a mild spacing case and a complex bite correction are genuinely different treatments.

"Is Invisalign worth it compared to braces?"

For most adults, yes. You can remove them to eat. Nobody sees them in meetings. Treatment is often shorter. A randomized trial found that Invisalign patients reported about half the discomfort of braces patients in the first week. Both get you to the same place clinically for mild to moderate cases.

"Do I pay it all at once?"

No. We set up monthly payments that match your treatment timeline. Most patients pay between $150 and $250 per month after insurance.

"What if I have no insurance?"

We still make it work. The payment plan, the tax credit, and sometimes a reduction in treatment scope (if appropriate) can bring the monthly cost down to something manageable.

"Is the scan really free? What's the catch?"

No catch. The iTero scan takes about 15 minutes. You see a 3D simulation of your projected smile. If you want to proceed, we put together a formal treatment plan and quote. If not, you walk out. We do this because seeing the simulation is the single best way for someone to decide if Invisalign is right for them.

"I'm embarrassed about my teeth. Is the consultation awkward?"

After 25 years on Annette Street I'm pretty much un-shockable. You don't need to apologise for the state of your teeth. We just look at where you are and talk about where you want to go.

How Do You Find Out Your Exact Cost?

Call us or book online. The first step is a free iTero 3D scan. Takes about 15 minutes. You see the simulation on screen. I walk you through the clinical plan. You get an exact number, in writing, with your insurance coverage confirmed.

No surprises. No pressure. We've been doing this for Bloor West Village, Baby Point, Roncesvalles, and the Junction for a long time.
