When you call to book, or when you arrive at our office, we're going to ask you some questions. I want to walk you through why, because I know that right now, every new process feels a bit strange.
Here's the thing: COVID-19 changed how we practice dentistry. Ontario guidelines ask us to screen patients before they come in. It sounds clinical, but really, it's just us being careful with each other.
You'll be asked about symptoms. Any cough, fever, or shortness of breath? Have you travelled recently? Have you been in close contact with someone who tested positive or is sick? These aren't trick questions. They're the ones that help us keep you, our staff, and our other patients safe.
Dental work puts us close together. We're working in your mouth. We're using tools that create aerosol particles. We're breathing the same air. So yes, these questions matter.
Here's what happens if your answer is yes to any of them. We don't turn you away angry or judgmental. We either reschedule your appointment for when you're in the clear, or we talk about whether we can do a modified version of your visit that reduces risk. Sometimes we can work around it. Sometimes we need to wait. Both options keep everyone safe.
Beyond the screening, we're doing everything else too. PPE, fresh sterilization, air filtration, hand hygiene. The screening is just the first layer.
I get it if this feels like a lot. But dental care is important. You don't need to avoid the dentist right now. You just need to come to one that's being thoughtful about safety. That's us.
See you soon.
